Joining + world settings
Connect, set the password, manage the world file.
Valheim servers are password-protected by default — the password is required by the game (5+ chars).
Connecting
In-game:
- Start a character.
- Join Game → Join IP.
- Enter the IP + port (
<ip>:2456). - Enter the password.
Server name + password
In the panel:
- Settings → Server name — what shows in the community browser.
- Server password — required, 5+ chars.
- Restart.
World
The world file lives in /saves/ on your server. By default we
create one named Dedicated.
To start fresh:
- Stop the server.
- File manager →
/saves/→ delete (or rename) the.fwland.dbfiles. - Start the server. A new world generates on first boot.
To use a specific world from single-player:
- Find your local save (
%APPDATA%/../LocalLow/IronGate/Valheim/worlds_local/on Windows). - Upload the
.fwland.dbfiles to/saves/on the server. - Edit the panel's World Name to match the filename (without extension).
- Restart.
Public listing
The Public Server toggle in panel settings determines whether your server appears in the public community browser. Off = the server is unlisted; players need the IP directly. Most private groups want this off.
Backups
The server auto-creates backups in the /saves/ folder (the
-old and -old1 files). On top of that, our panel can take
full-server snapshots from the Backups tab.
Performance
Valheim's networking can struggle past ~6–8 concurrent players. If your group hits that and you see rubber-banding or lag, upgrade the tier and check that your players are geographically close to the server.
